A Little List with Jade Rathore

5th July 2019

Jade Rathore, Mother & Co-founder of Phung Kay Vegan

After 14 years in retail operations, Jade recently jumped ship to set up London’s first vegan Chinese street food and supper club phenomenon “Phung Kay Vegan“. She lives with husband Gurps and three-year-old son Phoenix, in Hackney Wick, London. Here’s a quick look at their family essentials, and the things that make her little one’s world go round.

Building Blocks – These traditional building blocks were one of Phoenix’s first favourites. He’d knock down towers before he could build them and now sets up little courses to race his cars around. They’ve held up so much better than any plastic alternatives. Wooden Story 30 Pcs Natural Blocks in a tray; £26.95 Freyr and Fell at Trouva

Ramp Racer – This is one of our most played with toys at home. Phoenix loves watching the little cars roll down the track while I love that it’s eco friendly and easy on the eye. Ramp Racer; £45 Bobby Rabbit

Books and more Books – Going to the library and story time is high up on Pheonix’s love list. Current favourites include One Love, by Cedella Marley (Gurps wanted to introduce him to Reggae early), The Lion Inside by Rachel Bright and The Colour Monster by Anna Llenas, which is amazing at helping toddlers understand their emotions.

One Love; £16.99 Chronicle Books

The Lion Inside; £5.24 WHSmith

Woodland adventures – We’re so lucky that a Forest School is provided by Phoenix’s nursery and often do family trips to nearby Epping Forest, Tottenham Marshes, Walthamstow Wetlands and Hackney Wick Woods.

City Farms – Phoenix adores animals! In fact even something as simple as pointing out and guessing the animals names on a motorway journey can keep him entertained for ages.

Bob the Builder – One great thing about London is the amount of construction sites dotted around. We live in Hackney Wick, which is basically one massive building site and Phoenix loves pointing out all the diggers and cranes.

OXO portable potty – Saved us on many occasions, especially when travelling long distances. OXO Tot 2-in-1 Go Potty; £17.02 Amazon

Music – In all its forms. We’ve taken Phoenix to music festivals since he was a newborn, go to weekly singalongs and he even has his own Spotify playlist. His current favourites are Prince and Bob Marley.

Suction bowls – These were great when he was younger and wanted to throw his food across the table. Baby Stay Put suction bowl and matching spoon set; £14.99 Bamboo Bamboo

Miffy night light – It’s a classic for a reason. This dimmable night light gives off a gorgeous glow and sets the right tone for calm and snuggly bedtimes. Mr Maria Miffy Lamp Small; £145 The Modern Nursery

Sleeping bag – Phoenix likes to spin 360 in his sleep and the duvet usually ends up at the end of his bed. This sleeping bag keeps him cosy and warm and even has holes for his feet so he can walk around in it. Sleeping bag with feet; from £18.99 Slumbersac

Carbs – Rice, potatoes, bread, porridge; if it’s beige, he’ll eat it.

IKEA Latt table and chairs – Nothing beats IKEA for simple, affordable, versatile furniture and Phoenix loves this little table and chair set, which is perfect for mealtimes and playtimes. LÄTT Children’s table with two chairs; £20 IKEA
